Historia de la Fundación Centro Educativo Panamá

Our history

In May 1996, at the main mosque of Panama (Jame Masjid), four students began their studies, increasing to eight later that same year. We then relocated to Aguadulce, in the province of Coclé, where we had the opportunity to establish a boarding school with the necessary and appropriate accommodations for students. Over the years, enrollment gradually increased. Today, we are located in the district of La Chorrera, Feuillet township, El Espino, on the main road just past the Santeña neighborhood on the left-hand side.

Biography of Muslims in Panama

In Panama, the first Muslims who arrived were mainly workers involved in the construction of the Panama Canal. They built a small mosque in the village of Pueblo Nuevo in Panama City. Generally, Muslims began arriving in South America in the early 1900s, mostly in search of a better life; many came from countries like India and various Arab nations. Concerned with fulfilling the pillars of their faith, they built the first mosque for the worship of God.

In 1983, the first formal mosque in Panama City was built on Mexico Avenue, near Balboa Avenue. As the Muslim community grew, several mosques were established throughout the Panamanian territory. Today, thanks to the Almighty Creator, Panama has 11 mosques and 6 musallas (prayer spaces), which are still not enough to accommodate the entire community at once. For this reason, we are building a mosque in the town of La Chorrera, with the capacity to host up to 2,000 people under one roof, intended for gatherings and religious celebrations. This mosque is also located within the Foundation, and—God willing—it will benefit our students as well.
